W&H express production - Spare parts in record time
In the event of (imminent) machine downtime, machine spare parts are often required in record time. Windmöller & Hölscher has 90 percent of all required original spare parts available directly from stock. But there are also rare wear parts or old machine parts that are not stored. The W&H express production team closes this gap with great success: Machine components with simple to medium complexity that have been manufactured to customer specifications (drawing parts), such as a flange, can be rebuilt and delivered in less than 24 hours.
"Our express service for spare parts works in a similar way to an emergency room: the most important thing is to stabilize the patient, i.e. the machine, and keep it alive. This is how we prevent production shutdowns. We have received very positive feedback from our customers for the fast and immediate help," says Jörg Dellbrügge, Manager Supply Chain. The conventional delivery time for rare parts that are not stored in stock is two weeks or longer. W&H's express spare parts, on the other hand, can be on their way to the customer just one day after receipt of the order. "It always depends on the urgency of the order. A spare part from us is sometimes just an interim solution until the final machine part is finished. If, for example, this still has to be refined, experience has shown that production always takes a little longer."
Express production was set up as an additional service in 2018. A total of three full-time employees manufacture the spare parts in the small machine park of the express production. In addition to drilling, milling and turning machines, this also includes a saw and a small material store. The respective spare parts are manufactured on the basis of the corresponding machine drawings, which are stored at W&H for each individual customer. All express service mechanics have many years of experience in production and logistics and are ready to work on weekends when emergencies arise. They are also supported by junior staff from the W&H Academy.
